It was a very great journey to visit Raigad Fort.
Raigad is a hill fort situated in Mahad, district of Maharashtra, India. Approximately it is 165 km far from Mumbai,India.
History :
This fort was built by Chandra Raoji More (King of Javali). Rairi was the old name of Raigad Fort. Later on Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj seized fort and renamed as " Raigad ". He had made some improvement and expanded fort, then announced it as a "Capital of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja's Kingdom". Raigad is a birth place of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Experience :
Being a Maharastrian I wanted to see all that interesting facts related Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Raigad Fort. At the entrance there is " Maha Darwaja" (Huge Door).
Also Raigad has "Nagarkhana Darwaja" inside that there is King's Darbar as well as Raigad had a horse ride Market.
One interesting fact is, there is a "Hirakani Burooj" (Hirakani Bastion).This name had a story of one brave lady, to appreciate her courage and bravery Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built the Hirakani Bastion over this cliff.
Another attraction of Raigad is "Takmak Tok", is a point where those who found guilty for breaking rule of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were thrown from there to die in the valley.
Be careful if you go there, because it is cliff on top of the Raigad Fort.
So, This is how I experienced my journey. There are so many points like Statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Elephant Lake, Nane Darwaja, Samadhi of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj etc. But due to lack of time I couldn't see in detail because Raigad is very huge fort, you cannot climb and see all that interesting facts in detail provided if you go by Rope way. There are 1400 and more steps on Raigad.
Generally, my journey was amazing! Lastly I would say, I have realised that after so many years the history of our culture is still alive provided you visit and feel !
